Durham Region uses hardened centre lines in pilot project to encourage road safety

Posted on Friday, September 06, 2024 09:30 AM

Earlier this year, the Region of Durham installed a hardened centre line on Old Brock Road at the intersection of Brock Road in the City of Pickering as part of a pilot project to guide northbound left-turn movements from Brock Road into the receiving lane. Hardened centre lines are a safety measure consisting of a 3-inch-high rubber speed bump placed on the centre line of a road, extending from approximately 14 metres away from the intersection.

Reducing collisions with red light cameras

Posted on Tuesday, August 06, 2024 03:40 PM

Red light cameras have been installed at select locations throughout Durham Region to reduce T-bone collisions at intersections on Durham Regional roads.

Red light running has the potential to cause serious injury or death for both the offending driver and innocent victims. The Region’s collision records database shows 658 collisions over a three-year period (2021, 2022 and 2023) at signalized intersections where the cause was specifically attributed to a driver disobeying traffic control...
