Durham’s drinking water remains safe despite seasonal odours

Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham is assuring residents that municipal drinking water remains safe, even if an earthy or musty smell is present. These odours are caused by seasonal changes in Lake Ontario and are common in late summer and early fall.

Where: Municipal water supply systems across Durham Region, including the lakeshore communities served by Lake Ontario.

When: Taste and odour episodes typically occur in late summer or early fall and usually fade as lake temperatures cool.

Upcoming lane restrictions on Stellar Drive in Whitby

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region is advising residents of upcoming lane restrictions on Stellar Drive (Regional Road 25) in the Town of Whitby.

When: October 20 to 31. Unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule.

Where: Lane restrictions will be in place on Stellar Drive, from 850 metres to one kilometre west of Thornton Road South (Regional Road 52), in the Town of Whitby.

Community input needed in the development of a community-based hate reporting program

Whitby, Ontario – In response to rising hate activity across Durham Region, the Region of Durham and Victim Services of Durham Region have partnered to launch a community-based hate reporting program.

Developed in consultation with human rights and religious organizations, as well as community service providers, this initiative is designed to empower residents, support impacted individuals, and strengthen community safety and inclusion.
