Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham will carry out its annual fall test of the nuclear public alerting system on October 29 and 30. The public alerting system is designed to warn residents and businesses in the unlikely event of a nuclear emergency. It has two components: an automated telephone dialing system to notify landline phones within 10 kilometres of the nuclear generating stations, and outdoor sirens within the three-kilometre area.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is asking residents in Newcastle and Newtonville to conserve water on the evening of October 23, as the Works Department undergoes maintenance work at the Newcastle Water Supply Plant (WSP). Residents should refrain from indoor and outdoor non-essential water use during this time.

Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department’s 2018 Nutritious Food Basket (NFB) report shows that the cost of a basic healthy diet for a family of four in Durham Region is calculated to be $853 per month or $197 per week.
