Building momentum for the year ahead
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“On behalf of Regional Council, I would like to wish everyone in Durham a new year filled with health and happiness. As we ring in 2026, I can’t help but reflect on all we accomplished last year. It was a year of growth, innovation and shared success.
Durham Region was named Top Intelligent Community by the Intelligent Communities Forum, a testament to our forward-thinking and collaborative spirit. We strengthened our relationship with the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation by signing a historic bilateral agreement. We welcomed generational investment in the nuclear sector and celebrated the groundbreaking for the G7’s first Small Modular Reactor. We supported local businesses during trade challenges, expanded programs that make our communities more inclusive and connected, and so much more.
As we step into the new year, let’s build on the momentum we’ve created together. Please join me in celebrating not only the achievements of the past year, but also what’s yet to come.”
