Celebrating community and connection during Asian Heritage Month

Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:

“May marks Asian Heritage Month—an opportunity to celebrate the rich cultures, histories and contributions of Asian communities across Durham Region.

From families who have called Durham home for generations to newcomers helping to shape our future, residents of Asian descent play an important role in making our region inclusive, vibrant and welcoming. Their stories, traditions and perspectives enrich our communities and strengthen the connections that bring us together.

This month, and throughout the year, I encourage residents to take part in local celebrations, learn about Asian cultures and histories, and recognize the many ways Asian communities help make Durham Region a place where everyone belongs.

By listening, learning and growing together, we help create spaces where every voice is heard, every person is valued and every community can thrive.”
