Each year on March 22, the world comes together for World Water Day—a United Nations initiative that shines a spotlight on global water challenges. Here in Canada, we extend that commitment through Canada Water Week, from March 21 to 27, celebrating freshwater stewardship and inspiring communities to protect our most vital resource. If you own a private well in Durham, you play a key role in safeguarding your family’s health. That’s why it’s so important to test your well water routinely. Bacterial testing is free. If your results ever come back adverse or unsafe, you can call Durham Health Connection Line at 1-800-841-2729 to speak with our Public Health Inspectors to help interpret your results and guide your next steps. Regular testing helps detect contamination early—before it becomes a risk. Well owners are often the first line of defense. We’re here to support you with accessible testing, expert advice and evidence-based guidance to keep your water and your household safe. Free water testing services are available for all Durham Region residents who want to check the quality of their own private well water supply. Residents can pick-up sample bottles and drop-off water samples at any of our service locations. Visit durham.ca/PrivateWells for more information. This World Water Day and Canada Water Week, take a moment to protect what matters most. Test your water, stay informed and let’s work together to keep our communities healthy. |
