Durham Region Emancipation Day Celebration returns July 30, 2025
Whitby, Ontario – In recognition of Emancipation Day on August 1, the Region of Durham and its community partners are once again hosting an Emancipation Day celebration. The theme for this year is Rooted in Resilience: Embracing Empowerment.
This free, family-friendly event is an opportunity to connect and learn about emancipation, while looking toward the future we aspire to create for all members of our community. Attendees can expect live performances, food trucks, vendors, youth and children’s activities and more.

- Location: Esplanade Park, in Pickering
Why: We continue to see acts of anti-Black racism in Durham Region. The Region remains steadfast in its commitment to diversity, and strives to promote safety, inclusivity and respect, through events like Emancipation Day.
