Fighting poverty, strengthening communities: funding applications from community partners now open
Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham is accepting applications from local non-profit organizations to the Thriving Communities Fund. This fund supports initiatives that help prevent and/or reduce poverty for Durham residents.
What: The Thriving Communities Fund supports non-profit organizations with operational and/or capacity building activities that strengthen their ability to deliver programs and services. The maximum amount to be awarded is $50,000 per approved application.
Eligibility includes:
- Organizations must be based within Durham Region and serve Durham residents.
- Initiatives should demonstrate a clear plan for program/organizational sustainability and long-term impact.
- Applicants must provide a detailed budget and timeline for project implementation.
- Priority will be given to projects that utilize existing community resources and/or partnerships.
When: The deadline for non-profit organizations to apply is May 19, at noon.
Why: In Durham Region, approximately 5.2 per cent of residents live in poverty. Through supporting community non-profits, the Thriving Communities Fund aims to prevent or reduce local poverty, strengthen organizational capacity in the non-profit sector, promote long-term impact, enhance service delivery, and foster collaboration.
