Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham is hosting ID and Benefits Access Hub events for residents to connect with Service Canada, Service Ontario, local banks and community organizations all in one spot, working together to help you and your family thrive. Whether you need help getting government identification, opening a free Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) for your child, or discovering benefits that could put more money in your pocket— we’ve got you covered!

Why: ID and Benefits Access Hubs can help residents:

  • Learn about eligible benefits; there are more than 40 benefits in Ontario that can help boost your income.
  • Get or replace government identification (ID), such as Social Insurance Numbers (SINs), Birth Certificates, Health Cards, Photo ID and renewing your Driver’s License.
  • Open an RESP and apply for the Canada Learning Bond benefit from the Government of Canada. You may qualify for the Canada Learning Bond if your child was born in 2004 or later and your family has a modest income; you could receive up to $2,000 per child in an RESP to save for their post-secondary education.
  • Sign up for the new Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), which is now open to eligible seniors, children under 18, and adults with a Disability Tax Credit certificate who have received a letter in the mail from the Government of Canada.
  • Discover services offered by Durham Region Health Department, Social Services and Durham Region Transit.

When and where:

  • October 7: Oshawa Library – Northview Branch, 250 Beatrice Street East, Oshawa, from 1 to 6 p.m.
  • October 8: Clarington Library, Museums & Archives – Bowmanville Library, 163 Church Street, Bowmanville, from 1 to 6 p.m.
