Lane restrictions at Thornton Road North and Rossland Road West intersection in Oshawa
Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham is advising residents of lane restrictions at the intersection of Thornton Road North and Rossland Road West in the City of Oshawa due to a watermain drain valve leak.
When: Lane restrictions will remain until the drain valve repairs are finished. The work is expected to be completed later this month, although unfavourable conditions could affect the schedule.
Where: The left lane closest to the median is closed on Thornton Road North, just north of the intersection with Rossland Road West in Oshawa.
Why: A watermain drain valve is leaking, causing water to leak onto Thornton Road. To complete the repair, a full shutdown of the watermain is required. However, due to ongoing scheduled work at the Oshawa Water Supply Plant (WSP), a shutdown of this nature, at this time, would significantly impact the water service and pressure for local residences and businesses.
To avoid significant water service interruptions for local residents, the lane restrictions will be in place until the Oshawa WSP work is complete, later in March. At that time, the Region will provide an updated estimate of the drain valve repair timeline.
Note: Eastbound drivers on Rossland Road West turning left at the Thornton Road North intersection will need to turn into the curb lane.
The Region realizes that the work is disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and the work crews.
