Lane restrictions for Bowmanville Avenue (Regional Road 57) reconstruction
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of upcoming lane restrictions on Bowmanville Avenue (Regional Road 57) from Highway 401 to King Street West (Regional Highway 2) in the Municipality of Clarington, as part of the reconstruction project.
When: The Region’s contractor, KAPP Infrastructure Ltd., will begin mobilizing the week of November 3. The anticipated completion date for the entire project is by December 2027. Unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule.
Where: Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on Bowmanville Avenue from Highway 401 to King Street West, as part of the construction staging. Lane restrictions down to one lane will occur during daytime non-peak traffic hours and delays should be anticipated.
Why: To safely complete ongoing widening and reconstruction of Bowmanville Avenue, including grading, pavements, drainage, noise barriers, retaining walls, pedestrian tunnel, widening and rehabilitation of Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) overhead bridge, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, watermains, traffic signals, illumination, sidewalks, multi-use paths and landscaping. Note: Durham Region Transit routes, bus stops and pedestrian access will be maintained within the limits of construction. Municipal construction projects include the use of equipment which may cause noticeable noise and vibration for nearby residents and businesses. The Region realizes that the work may be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.
Businesses will remain open for the duration of construction. The Region recognizes there may be potential impacts during the work.
