Region of Durham celebrates Asian Heritage Month
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“Today (May 1), marks the beginning of Asian Heritage Month. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the vibrant and diverse Asian communities that call Durham Region home. It’s a time to recognize the achievements and rich cultural legacy of Asian Canadians, and their significant impact on our history, society and identity.
This month also serves as an opportunity to acknowledge the ongoing systemic challenges and barriers faced by Asian communities. As a Region, we are committed to combatting all forms of racism, including anti-Asian racism.
During Asian Heritage Month and beyond, I encourage you to celebrate the customs, cultures and traditions of people of Asian descent, so that we may build a more welcoming, inclusive and equitable Durham Region.”
