Remembering Ontario’s 26th Lieutenant Governor, Hilary Weston
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“On behalf of the Region of Durham and its residents, I offer my deepest condolences on the passing of Ontario’s 26th Lieutenant Governor, The Honourable Hilary Weston. Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time.
Among Ms. Weston’s many accomplishments, she was a philanthropist dedicated to bettering communities. She established the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer Awards; donated her salary to the Hilary M. Weston Foundation for Youth; and was appointed to the Order of Canada. She championed causes that she strongly believed in, including issues tied to women, volunteerism and youth.
Ms. Weston’s commitment to public service will leave a lasting legacy in the Province of Ontario and beyond. Flags at Regional Headquarters have been half-masted in her memory and will remain lowered until sunset on the day she is laid to rest.”
