Road closure on Athol Street East

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of a road closure on Athol Street East in the City of Oshawa due to a watermain break.  

When: The road closure will take effect December 14, 2025, and will be in effect until the repairs are completed.

Where: The watermain has been isolated on Athol Street East in Oshawa. The affected area extends roughly 100 metres east of Charles Street.

Why: To safely repair the watermain break.

Note: Businesses and residents in the area bounded by Athol Street East to Charles Street will experience a temporary water service interruption or low water pressure during the repair.

When the water service returns to normal, it is important for customers to turn on a cold water tap only and let it run for approximately five to 10 minutes to clean out any sediment that may have accumulated in your water service. This will avoid any sediment entering the hot water system.

More information regarding the expected duration of this service interruption will be provided as it becomes available. The Region realizes that the work is disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and the work crews.
