Whitby, Ontario – Film and television (TV) production is growing across Durham Region, and the industry needs skilled talent. Explore a creative, in-demand future right here at home with Film Durham’s Film and Television Industry Career Fair.

What: This free event is ideal for high school students, post-secondary students, and adults considering a new career path. Get a look at the world of film and TV in Durham Region and discover over 150 career possibilities, from cinematography, directing and sound design to visual effects, animation, costume and props, and more. Meet professionals who work in the field, ask questions, take a film career quiz, and explore interactive displays to discover how different roles align with various skills and interests.

When: Tuesday, March 10, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Where: Durham College and Ontario Tech University Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre, located at 21 Avenue of Champions in Oshawa, Ontario.

Why: With more productions happening locally, Durham Region’s film and TV industry is bigger than ever and creating exciting new opportunities close to home. This event gives students and career-seekers a chance to learn about real career paths and training options, meet the people doing the work, and how to build a future in this thriving local sector.

Note: Registration is required. Sign up at FilmDurham.eventbrite.com. Registration closes on Monday, March 9 at 11:59 p.m. or when space runs out.

  • Film Durham is a part of Invest Durham, the Region’s Economic Development and Tourism division, and is the main point of contact for the film and television industry in Durham Region.
  • Film Durham produces the Film and TV Industry Career Fair in collaboration with film industry unions and guilds: National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (NABET) 700M Unifor, International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) 873, IATSE 411, International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE 667), Directors Guild of Canada Ontario (DGC), Alliance of Canadian Cinema Television Radio Artists (ACTRA), Writers Guild of Canada. Other partners include Ontario Creates, Ontario Green Screen, Sunbelt Rentals Film and TV, Durham Region International Film Festival (DRIFF), Durham College, Ontario Tech University, Trent University Durham GTA, Toronto Animation Arts Festival International (TAAFI) and Canadian Firearms Safety Education Service.
  • Durham Region plays an important role in Ontario’s multi-billion-dollar film and TV industry due to its proximity to Toronto's production hub, film industry workforce, supporting businesses, studios, and unique blend of filming locations.
  • Durham Region’s film and TV production sites include a dedicated film studio, Canada’s largest filming backlot, post-production facilities and one of Canada’s top-10 filming locations.
  • Recent notable productions filmed in Durham Region include Wayward, FUBAR, The Way Home, Reacher, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Umbrella Academy, Star Trek Strange New Worlds, Dutch and Knuckles, The Testament and more.
