Together in pride: Durham Region celebrates diversity and inclusion during Pride Month
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“Pride season starts today (June 1) across Canada, and in Durham Region we’re proud to kick off Pride Month this afternoon at Youth Pride Durham—a welcoming celebration for youth, families and allies.
Pride Month spotlights the resilience, contributions, value and diversity of Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (2SLGBTQI+) communities. It’s a powerful reminder of the importance of building a region where everyone feels seen, valued and supported.
Durham Region is committed to being a place where 2SLGBTQI+ individuals are affirmed and embraced, and where no one faces discrimination based on gender identity or expression, or sexual orientation.
Businesses, organizations, allies and advocates play an essential role in creating inclusive spaces and advancing equity. At the heart of it all is respect—the foundation of safe, welcoming communities for everyone.
This month and beyond, please join us in championing acceptance through education, empowerment and celebration so that we can build a future where everyone feels a sense of belonging.”
