Upcoming fare adjustments for Durham Region Transit (DRT)

Whitby, Ontario – Public transit is essential for creating connected and inclusive communities and economic development across the region. It provides residents with access to job and educational opportunities, supports local businesses by facilitating access to shopping, dining, and tourism, and ensures that residents regardless of ability can access transit services throughout Durham Region.

When: DRT fares are set to change July 1, 2025. Below is a summary of the fare options.

  • Adult: 
    • Single ride with PRESTO and E-Ticket: $3.73
    • Monthly PRESTO pass: $134.28
    • Cash and Open Payment (debit or credit card): $4.75
  • Youth (ages 13 to 19):
    • Single ride with PRESTO and E-Ticket: $3.36
    • Youth monthly PRESTO pass: $107.42
    • Cash and Open Payment (debit or credit card): $4.75
  • Seniors (65 and older):  
    • Single ride with PRESTO and E-Ticket: $2.46
    • Senior monthly PRESTO pass: $53.71
    • Cash: $3.45
    • Open Payment (debit or credit card): $4.75
  • Transit Assistance Program (TAP):
    • Pay-as-you-go with PRESTO (for the first 14 trips): $3.73
    • TAP monthly PRESTO pass: $52.22

Why: DRT is dedicated to improving the value of public transit by enhancing the transit network to deliver frequent and reliable services for residents and visitors. The upcoming fare increase is part of DRT’s 10-year service and financing strategy, which aims to increase bus service by 127 per cent by 2032, enhance service frequency and expand the transit network, explore new technologies, and invest in modern infrastructure.
