Durham Region residents can now purchase new Green Bins, kitchen containers and backyard composters or exchange broken Green Bins and kitchen containers online with free delivery. Please allow approximately 10 days for delivery.

Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham is building a new long-term care home in the City of Pickering, with support from the Province of Ontario.

This 200-bed home will be in the beautiful Seaton community, which is located between Brock Road and Whites Road in Pickering. Projected to open in fall 2026, it will offer common spaces (a bank, store, hair salon, worship centre and fitness area); a main space for resident social interactions; and a dementia-friendly design.

Durham Region Council passed Development Charges By-law No. 2024-037, a by-law to amend the Regional Residential and Non-Residential Development Charge By-law No. 42-2023 on June 26, 2024, pursuant to Section 2(1) of the Development Charges Act, 1997.

Whitby, Ontario - The following represents beach-posting information for Durham Region beaches. Test results for the week of July 2 indicate that one public beach is posted as unsafe for swimming. Beaches are posted as unsafe for swimming when elevated levels of E. coli exceed the provincial standard of 200 E. coli per 100 ml of water.

The Health Department reminds the public not to swim in beach water for at least 48 hours after heavy rainfall, as bacteria levels can increase due to run-off.
