Bike Month

Smart Commute, along with Cycle Durham and Durham Tourism, encourages you to enter the challenge to visit three or more Bicycle Friendly Businesses in Durham by bike. Find the Bicycle Friendly Businesses that are part of the Ontario By Bike network here.

All entrants will have a chance to win a participation prize and will be entered for the grand prize of a Durham Tourism overnight getaway!

To enter the contest, please complete the Bicycle Friendly Challenge Form. Contest is open to Durham residents who are 18 years old or order at time of entry, for trips made from June 1-30. Entries will be accepted until July 10, 2026.

Log your bike trip to work, school, running errands or just for fun as a trip on the SmartCommute.ca website or SmartCommute.ca app for a chance to win a $100 gift card (maximum two trips per day).

Participants receive one entry per bike trip logged during the contest period. New users who create their Smart Commute account during the contest period gain one entry to the contest.

Smart Commute is hosting weekly webinars every Thursday during Bike Month between 12-1 p.m., from May 25 to June 25. Visit SmartCommute.ca to register for each webinar.

Participants in each webinar will have a chance to win a $50 gift card prize from Mountain Equipment Company (MEC) or PRESTO.

The Active and Sustainable School Travel Program will be hosting the annual Walk and Roll to School Campaign in recognition of Bike Month 2026. On Thursday, June 4 and Thursday, June 11, elementary school students are encouraged to walk and roll (cycle) to and from school. To participate in the contest, elementary school administrators must send a photo of their bike/scooter parking area being used each Thursday to activetransportation@durham.ca. The three schools with the highest consistent bike usage will each win two bikes to be raffled off at a future event.

Tuesday, June 16: City of Oshawa Scavenger Hunt on bike, starting from Lakeview Park – Parking Lot G (1557 Kluane Avenue)

Saturday, June 27: Town of Whitby Drop-in Bike Repair Workshop on the Waterfront Trail at Rotary Sunrise Lake Park
