Celebrate National Public Works Week at free events in Durham Region
Whitby, Ontario – A simulator, equipment demonstrations, Touch-a-Truck, facility tours and more! Take part in our free, fun-filled community events on Saturday, May 24 and discover the many services provided by the Works Department as we celebrate National Public Works Week (NPWW).
When: Saturday, May 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (rain or shine).

Duffin Creek Water Pollution Control Plant
901 McKay Road, Pickering
Activities include a tour of this award-winning plant, children’s activities, Touch-a-Truck, watermain repair and tapping demonstrations, and the opportunity to try out one of our heavy equipment simulators. Pre-registration is required for the tour only. Sign up on EventBrite.
Durham York Energy Centre
1835 Energy Drive, Courtice
Activities include a tour of the Control Room to see the garbage ‘claw’ in action, Touch-a-Truck, equipment demonstrations and children's activities. No pre-registration needed; tours will be based on guest volume.
Why: From May 18 to 24, municipalities across North America celebrate NPWW. In Durham Region, this week is dedicated to recognizing the essential services provided by our Public Works staff to residents and businesses every day.
On behalf of The Regional Municipality of Durham’s Works Committee, John Henry, Regional Chair and CEO, has proclaimed the week of May 18 to 24 as National Public Works Week in Durham Region.
