Fun for the whole family at our National Public Works Week event
Residents of all ages are invited to our free National Public Works Week (NPWW) event on Saturday, May 23 at the Oshawa/Whitby Depot at 825 Conlin Road in Whitby. Drop by between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for a guided tour of the depot, information booths, Touch-a-Truck, a chance to try a simulator, face painting and an ice cream truck!
NPWW is an annual celebration of the incredible work our public works staff do every single day to keep our communities throughout Durham Region running smoothly.
Essential services for our residents
From your morning shower to putting garbage out for pick-up to driving to work; every day, we are using the essential services provided by the Works Department. These services include:
- Designing and maintaining Regional roads.
- Suppling safe municipal drinking water.
- Collecting and treating sewage.
- Solid waste management activities.
Residents attending last year’s event experienced a fun-filled day of simulators, equipment demonstrations, Touch-a-Truck experiences and tours. A pair of young siblings especially enjoyed the Touch-a-Truck.
“I had never been in such a big machine before,” said *Rory. “It was really cool that the chair could turn all the way around.”
“I loved the steering wheel, and it was so fun to honk the horn!” said *Susy. “The man showed us how everything worked and was so nice.”
This year’s event will be better than ever
In addition to the fun activities from past years, such as Touch-a-Truck, equipment demonstrations and the simulator, this year’s event will also feature face painting, an ice cream truck and a tour of the services provided at the Oshawa/Whitby Depot.
We hope to see you there!
*Names have been changed to protect the children’s privacy.
