Guide better bicycle parking in Durham Region
Whitby, Ontario – Cycling is affordable, healthy and fun, but when the ride is over, where do your wheels go? The Region of Durham is launching the Bicycle Parking Guidelines Project to find ways to make bike parking more convenient, secure and better designed at busy public places. We want your input from the start so that bike parking is part of the ride, not a reason to stay home.
What: The Bicycle Parking Guidelines Project will focus on public places like Durham Region’s Primary Cycling Network (PCN), other local and Regional roads, community and recreation centres, libraries, transit stops, parks, post-secondary schools and other attractions. Options for e-bikes and e-scooters will also be considered. Whether you’re locking up for five minutes or five hours, you want a spot that works for you.
Where: Take the online survey at durham.ca/BicycleParking.
When: Survey is open until July 28, 2025.
Why: Public feedback will play an important role in shaping the Bicycle Parking Guidelines. Better bike parking means:
- More people choosing to ride their bicycle.
- Convenient and secure storage that’s accessible to everyone.
- A greener, more connected and healthier Durham Region.
Notes: The development of the Bicycle Parking Guidelines was recommended as part of the 2021 Durham Regional Cycling Plan, which sets out a vision for a more connected and bike-friendly region. A Public Information Centre will be held this fall. Sign up for project updates at durham.ca/BicycleParking.
