Whitby, Ontario – In a move that strengthens economic growth in Durham Region, Invest Durham and the Town of Ajax’s Business Engagement and Supports Team secured a $10 million expansion at Triforest’s manufacturing plant in Ajax. Their collaborative efforts are a significant achievement in advanced manufacturing and job creation.

The milestone was marked at a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Regional Chair and CEO, John Henry; Regional and local Councillors from Town of Ajax; and Triforest executives.

Triforest, a global specialist in laminate flooring and related products, established its first North American factory in Ajax in 2023. The Phase II development is expected to create more than 80 full-time jobs and generate $100 million in annual output. The expansion introduces four SPC (stone plastic composite) flooring production lines, with installation and commissioning now complete. Trial production began in June, with full operations starting this month.

Despite ongoing volatility in U.S. trade relations and persistent tariff concerns that have challenged manufacturers, Triforest has secured hundreds of containers of U.S. orders, signalling strong demand and growth potential for its expanded operations in Ajax.

Together, Invest Durham, Town of Ajax and Triforest are building a vibrant manufacturing sector in Durham Region. To learn more about opportunities to build or grow your business in Durham Region, visit InvestDurham.ca.

- Simon Gill, Director of Economic Development and Tourism, Region of Durham

“We are proud to mark this important milestone in Ajax, where Triforest’s first Canadian SPC vinyl flooring production line represents not only a major step forward in our North American manufacturing strategy, but also a testament to the strength of local collaboration. We are grateful for the ongoing support from the Region of Durham and the Town of Ajax, and we look forward to growing together as we continue to bring Canadian-made, high-performance flooring products to markets at home and around the world.”

 – Junwu Zhang, CEO of Triforest
