Kingston Road Bus Rapid Transit project from Harwood Avenue to Galea Drive in Ajax - Night Work
What’s happening?
The Regional Municipality of Durham is continuing construction for the Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit Bus Rapid Transit (DSBRT) project on Kingston Road (Regional Highway 2) from Harwood Avenue to Galea Drive in the Town of Ajax. As part of the work, nighttime construction activities are required for watermain construction and microtunnelling for the sanitary sewer installation.
What work is being done?
- Microtunnelling and excavation to install a sanitary sewer underneath Kingston Road (Regional Highway 2), from 200 metres west of Salem Road (Regional Road 41) to 130 metres east of Galea Drive.
- Watermain construction from Harwood Avenue (Regional Road 44) to approximately 300 metres east.
When will this happen?
- From March 9 until the end of April 2026, KAPP Infrastructure will begin continuous 24-hour per day (7 a.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Saturday) construction for the sanitary sewer microtunnel installation. Unfavorable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
- Further advanced notice prior to the night work for watermain construction and connections will be provided, at a later date.
How will traffic be affected?
- Traffic will continue to be reduced (restricted) to one lane in each direction throughout the duration of construction during non-peak hours.
- Local residents and business owners should expect traffic delays and are asked to exercise additional caution for the safety of construction workers and road users. Access to business entrances will be maintained whenever possible.
Other important information
- The equipment used for construction creates noise and potential ground vibrations which may be noticeable to residents and the public.
- Businesses in the area will remain open during construction. Business owners who would like to learn more about what to expect during construction, visit durham.ca/OpenForBusiness
