When every second counts: Transforming paramedic services in Durham
A loved one in crisis. A family member in a serious accident. A friend facing a life-altering medical emergency.
In these moments, every second feels like an eternity—and every second counts.
On October 28, the Region of Durham proudly celebrated the official opening of the
new Seaton Paramedic Response Station and Training Facility in Pickering.
As our communities in north Ajax and Pickering grow, so does the need for quicker emergency response. This new station ensures that help will be closer, faster and better prepared than ever before.
“As paramedics, our priority is delivering life-saving care when and where it’s needed most,” says Mike Martin, Advanced Care Paramedic, Quality and Development Facilitator, Region of Durham Paramedic Services. “The new Seaton Paramedic Response Station will help us respond to emergencies more efficiently and ensures we can continue to deliver the highest standard of care as Durham Region grows.”
This newly opened station isn’t just about speed. It’s about the future of care. Inside, we’ve built a state-of-the-art training facility where paramedics will learn, innovate and prepare for what’s next. That means better tools, techniques and outcomes for patients—our friends, families and neighbours.
"The new facility is a learning space that will allow us to focus on future patient care development,” says Katherine Robertson, Advanced Care Paramedic, Quality and Development Facilitator, Region of Durham Paramedic Services. “By creating an environment designed to evolve, we're opening the door for ongoing investments in innovative practices that will help us to better serve the Durham community."
This investment is part of a larger plan to keep pace with growth and make sure emergency care stays strong as our region evolves. For residents, it means peace of mind knowing that help is closer, faster, and backed by the latest training and technology.
The Seaton Paramedic Response Station isn’t just about today—it’s about tomorrow. It’s about building a region where residents feel safe, where innovation drives care, and where every call is answered with speed and compassion.
