Accessible Services

Winter 2022

The goal of this project was to understand how we might integrate accessibility and inclusive design considerations into Durham Region’s innovation process. This included answering questions such as:

• What are the principles of accessible and inclusive design?

• What are the practical implications of these principles to the municipal innovation process?

• How might innovation tools be made inclusive?

• How might diverse perspectives be captured throughout the innovation process?

What services do people with disabilities have difficulty accessing in Durham? Why do they have difficulty accessing them? Why is there limited feedback from residents around the barriers they face? The purpose of this project was to gather community feedback on what services people with disabilities are unable to access, why they aren’t able to access them, and why more feedback isn’t given about accessing services.
