The goal of this project was to understand how we might integrate accessibility and inclusive design considerations into Durham Region’s innovation process. This included answering questions such as:
What are the principles of accessible and inclusive design?
What are the practical implications of these principles to the municipal innovation process?

There is considerable difficulty in measuring the health of Durham Region’s economy. Traditional methods of measuring economic growth and activity (such as GDP) are not available for Durham Region, so we often rely on numerous individual data points to get a sense of how the economy is performing.

The purpose of this project is to better understand the key components of successful interventions that have aided early learning professionals in preventing at-risk behaviours in young children. Durham Region’s rebuilding the village project looks at interventions for at-risk behaviours in children five years of age or younger.

The Region of Durham has offered childcare fee subsidy, in order to help parents with the cost of childcare, for over 20 years. In that time however, there had not been a robust data analysis to assess the impact of the fee subsidy program from either an economic or social perspective.

Rapid, diverse population growth and urban intensification will impact the Region’s future service delivery models and the amount of waste the Region will manage.
