Advancing inclusive employment across Durham Region

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region is excited to bring back the annual Region of Durham Disability Employment Conference. Bringing together employers, community organizations, educators and accessibility advocates, the one-day conference will explore strategies for building more inclusive workplaces. In partnership with Ontario Tech University and Ready, Willing and Able, this event will highlight promising practices, emerging trends and collaborative approaches to support employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

When: Friday, October 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: Ontario Tech University, located at the Science Building (formerly known as UA), 2000 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa, Ontario.

What to expect:

• Featured keynote speaker, Dr. Mahadeo Sukhai, the world’s first congenitally blind geneticist and nationally recognized leader advancing equitable employment across Canada.
• A panel discussion with disability and employment professionals.
• Recruiters seeking talent from people with disabilities.
• An interactive vendor expo.

The free conference will feature a hiring event for persons seeking employment who are from the disability community. Through partnerships with Durham Region Employment Services and Durham Employment and Newcomer Centre (DENC), people with disabilities are invited to participate in the hiring event.
