Celebrating connected communities on Canada Day

Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:

“Today (July 1), we come together to celebrate Canada—our shared home, the people who shape it and the future we’re building together.

Here in Durham Region, that enthusiasm shows up every day. We see it in neighbours looking out for one another, in the small businesses and local organizations that keep our communities strong, and in the many cultures, perspectives and stories that make us who we are. Durham is a place where people care deeply, and it shows.

Canada Day is a moment to come together, and a time to reflect on how far we’ve come, how much we continue to learn, and how each of us is responsible to keep moving forward with purpose and respect. Building a more inclusive, connected and vibrant community takes ongoing effort, and each of us has a role to play.

However you choose to spend today, take a moment to appreciate the connections around you and the role we each play in shaping our communities. That’s what makes Canada strong.

Happy Canada Day!”
