Discovering the heart of rural Clarington: Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue
One of the best parts of serving as Regional Chair is getting out into the community and discovering the people and organizations that make Durham Region such a special place to live, work and visit.
Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue as part of the Clarington Board of Trade's North of Taunton Business Tour. The tour shines a light on the businesses and organizations that operate in rural Clarington, helping more people discover, connect with and support the incredible work happening north of Taunton Road.
During the visit, it quickly became clear why Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue is such a valued part of our community. For more than three decades, they have been caring for injured, orphaned and displaced wildlife while helping connect people of all ages to the natural world around them.
What struck me most was their passion. Whether it's rehabilitating wildlife, educating visitors or creating memorable experiences for families, the team at Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue is making a real difference in our community.
It's organizations like this that remind us why supporting local matters. They help preserve what makes rural Durham unique while creating places where residents and visitors can learn, connect and make lasting memories.
That spirit will be on full display later this month when Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue hosts its annual Halloween Party on October 24. The family friendly event promises plenty of seasonal fun, from trick-or-treating through the Enchanted Forest and Halloween-themed activities to meeting some of the organization’s animal ambassadors. It's also an opportunity to support the important conservation and education work happening year-round.
The North of Taunton Business Tour highlighted something many of us already know: rural Clarington is home to incredible businesses, organizations and experiences that are well worth exploring. Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue is certainly one of them.
Whether you're planning to attend the Halloween Party or are simply looking for a new place to explore, I encourage you to discover everything Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue has to offer.
Visits like this are a reminder that some of Durham Region’s hidden gems can be found off the beaten path, and that supporting local organizations helps strengthen the communities we call home.

I also encourage you to flip through the Doing Business North of Taunton Guide jointly created by the Clarington Board of Trade and Invest Clarington for a snapshot of the businesses, communities, opportunities and experiences shaping North of Taunton’s business landscape.
