Durham candidates can recycle election signs for free

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region’s Sign Recycling Program provides election candidates the opportunity to recycle dedicated loads of corrugated plastic signs, free of charge following the election, at our waste management facilities. Loads of signs mixed with other waste materials are subject to the regular disposal fee.

Signs may be dropped off at any of Durham Region’s three waste management facilities. Wooden stakes, wire mounts, nylon zip ties, metal rings and staples must be removed from signs before delivering to the waste management facility. Candidates who are considering future campaigns are encouraged to keep their signs for reuse.

Candidates are encouraged to consult with their local area municipality for guidance on requirements for the placement and removal period for temporary signs.
