Families are invited to learn about the Durham York Energy Centre at free PA Day Event

Whitby, Ontario – Ever wondered what happens to our household waste after it gets collected? Families are invited to find out by dropping in to our free, engaging event at the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC) in Courtice to explore how we’re transforming household waste into valuable resources. Come learn about the five “Rs” of our waste hierarchy (Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover).

Here’s what you can expect:

• Guided tours to our control room to view the waste pit and ‘claw’.

• Interactive waste sorting games.

• Activity books and colouring pages.

• Stickers, temporary tattoos, photo opportunities and button making.

• Informational displays and the opportunity to have your questions answered by our team.

When: Monday, October 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: 1835 Energy Drive in Courtice. The location has accessible parking and facility access.

Why: This event is designed to educate, inspire and engage the community to reduce the amount of waste we create and manage the generated waste as a resource.
