Film Durham supports industry forum exploring the future of movie making

Whitby, Ontario – The film and television industry is rapidly evolving. From artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual production to digital content creation and new business models, on-screen storytelling is being transformed in exciting and unexpected ways. This October, Film Durham (Invest Durham) is partnering with the Durham Region International Film Festival (DRIFF) to present Myth2Market: The Future of Movie Making Summit. The free, full-day event invites creators, industry professionals and film enthusiasts to discover emerging trends, explore new technologies and learn from leaders shaping the way stories are created, shared and experienced.  

When: October 23, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.           

Where: St. Francis Centre for Community, Arts and Culture in Ajax. 

What: Myth2Market: The Future of Movie Making Summit features presentations and panel discussions exploring the changes that are reshaping the film and television industry. Topics include AI’s impact on storytelling and production workflows, virtual production, visual effects, sustainable filmmaking practices and strategies for expanding local production and investment within Durham Region. Attendees can also participate in technology demonstrations and a workshop led by YouTube Canada that will showcase new creation, distribution and monetization tools transforming digital storytelling. 

Featured speakers currently include: 

• Michael Hirsh, co-founder of Nelvana and animation producer behind internationally known series including The Care Bears, Babar and The Adventures of Tintin.
• Bob Munroe, award-winning visual effects producer, educator, inventor and co-founder of C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures, whose work has contributed to more than 100 screen productions. 
• Sergio Navaretta, internationally acclaimed director, executive producer and co-founder of S.N.A.P Films, known for award-winning, character-driven narrative cinema. 
• Stephanie Wilson Chapin, Strategic Partner Lead for TV and Film, Sports, News, YouTube Canada, with expertise in transforming ideas into tangible, data-driven solutions that generate substantial revenue.
