National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: What's closed in Durham Region?

Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham is advising residents of impacts to Regional programs and services on September 30 in observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

When and where: On Wednesday, September 30, the following programs and services will be impacted:

• Durham Regional Headquarters in Whitby will be closed, including Provincial Offences Courts and offices, Ontario Works Office, the Child Care and Early Years Division Office, and all Regional front counters and call centre services
• All Family Services Durham locations will be closed.
• Ontario Works offices in Ajax, Oshawa and Uxbridge will be closed.
• The Adult Day Programs at Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa and Lakeview Manor in Beaverton will be closed. The Port Perry site (431 Paxton Street) is always closed on Wednesdays.

• All waste management facilities in Brock, Scugog and Oshawa; the Clarington Household Special Waste Depot; and the Waste Management Centre in Whitby (new and replacement green bins) will be closed.

• Health Department programs and services will be unavailable, including:
• Oral Health Clinic and Office in Oshawa
• Sexual Health clinics
• Breastfeeding clinics
• Immunization clinics
• Water sample drop-off and pickup will be unavailable from September 29 at 8:30 a.m. to October 1 at 8:30 a.m. at the following locations:
• Durham Regional Headquarters at 605 Rossland Road in Whitby.
• Durham Region Health Department Port Perry Office at 181 Perry Street in Port Perry.
• Township of Uxbridge Municipal Office at 51 Toronto Street in Uxbridge.
• Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex at 2440 Durham Regional Highway 2 in Bowmanville.

Regular water sample bottle drop-off and pickup schedule will resume on October 1 at 8:30 a.m.

Why: In observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Note: There will be no impacts to waste collection services, Durham Region Transit service, or the Regional Directly Operated Early Learning and Child Care Centres. Online tools for court and prosecution services, including fine payments, trial requests, early resolution requests, disclosure requests and the pre-trial booking system, remain available.

For Provincial Offences Court Services, the public can use online services for payment or the 24-hour drop box at the south entrance of Regional Headquarters.
