New pedestrian crossover at the intersection of Major Oaks Road and Wildwood Crescent

Pickering, Ontario – In collaboration with the City of Pickering, the Regional Municipality of Durham will be adding a new pedestrian crossover at the intersection of Major Oaks Road and Wildwood Crescent in the City of Pickering.

Designed using special pavement markings, signage and sometimes lights, these crossovers allow pedestrians to cross the road without stop signs or traffic signals. Drivers and cyclists must come to a complete stop and yield the entire width of the roadway to pedestrians.  Motorists must not pass other vehicles and must wait until pedestrians have completely cleared the roadway before proceeding.

When: Construction is ongoing. The pedestrian crossover is expected to be in operation by the end of 2026.
Where:  Major Oaks Road and Wildwood Crescent intersection in Pickering.

Why: To improve road safety.

Note: This work is in support of Durham Vision Zero, a long-term plan to ensure a safer transportation system that sees no lives lost or serious injuries on Durham’s roadways. Learn more at durham.ca/VisionZero.

The Region realizes that the work may be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.
