Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham would like to remind residents that harvest season is coming soon. Drivers may experience temporary delays on roads due to slow moving farm machinery. Motorists are asked to be patient and cautious when sharing the road with these vehicles.
When: Harvest season starts in the early fall and will continue into the late fall.

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region is advising residents of upcoming lane restrictions on Stellar Drive (Regional Highway 25) in the Town of Whitby.
When: Daytime only from September 8 to 12. Unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule.
Where: Stellar Drive, from 850 metres to one kilometre west of Thornton Road South (Regional Road 52) in the Town of Whitby.

If you’re traveling around Durham, you may start noticing horizontal white lines painted in the middle of your lane. So, what are they for, and how do they work?
These lines are known as optical bars, and they give drivers the perception they are going too fast or speeding up. Essentially, the space between the markings reduces over the length of the area where the lines are painted, giving the illusion of increased travel speed, which encourages motorists to slow down as the spacing narrows.
Mandatory water restrictions for north Durham residents and businesses have been lifted

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham has lifted the mandatory water restrictions that were in place for residents and businesses in Beaverton, Cannington, Sunderland, Uxbridge, Port Perry, Orono, Blackstock and Greenbank.
When: Effective immediately.
Where: Beaverton, Cannington, Sunderland, Uxbridge, Port Perry, Orono, Blackstock and Greenbank.
Why: Now that the period of extreme heat and lack of rain has subsided, the water restrictions that were in place have been lifted.

Mosquitoes test positive for West Nile virus in Whitby

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region Health Department has received notification that adult mosquitoes in Whitby have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNv) disease. There have now been 19 mosquito batches in Durham Region that have tested positive for the virus this season including four in Clarington, seven in Oshawa, three in Ajax, four in Pickering and one in Whitby.
