Celebrating community and connection at Youth Pride Durham 2026

More than 300 children, youth, families and allies came together on June 13 for Youth Pride Durham 2026, an afternoon filled with connection and celebration. Held annually, the event champions diversity and creates a welcoming space where everyone can feel included and supported.

One of the day’s highlights was the Resource Village. Filled with welcoming booths, there were many friendly faces from local organizations and agencies. Kids, teens and families could explore 2SLGBTQI+ supports, ask questions and connect with the people working to make Durham Region safer and more inclusive.

The Region of Durham’s 2SLGBTQI+ Committee also ran a passport activity. Participants visited different vendors, answered Pride-themed questions and collected stamps along the way. Completed passports were entered into a draw for prizes—adding a touch of excitement while helping attendees discover new supports and build connections.

Throughout the afternoon, energy ran high. DJ Psi kept the music upbeat, while children lined up for face painting, leaving with vibrant designs that echoed the Intersex Progress Pride flags waving nearby.

Gambit the Magician wowed the crowd with sleight-of-hand tricks, while others explored Durham Region Transit’s Pride bus and climbed aboard a Whitby Fire Department truck. Local food vendors—and a crowd-favourite ice cream truck—kept everyone fueled with sweet treats.

Drag Queens Wilma and Baby Bel Bel, as well as Drag King Rocker delivered bod and joyful performances that celebrating self-expression and authenticity, powerful reminders of why events like Youth Pride matter.

In addition, attendees were encouraged to bring non‑perishable food donations to support Durham Alliance Outreach, the region’s only food pantry focused on the needs of 2SLGBTQI+ community members.
