Durham Region Emancipation Day Celebration returns August 5
Join the Region of Durham and community partners to recognize Emancipation Day 2026. It’s a time to connect, learn and celebrate the enduring legacy of freedom, while committing to meaningful actions that move our community forward so everyone can feel truly free.
The theme for the 2026 event is Forward Together: Freedom, Culture, Community. Residents are invited to come together for an afternoon of learning, reflection and community connection.
Explore the vendor market featuring food, art, products and services that show cultural diversity, creativity, and community connection. There will also be live performances, an African-themed fashion show, food trucks, youth and children’s activities and more.
