New municipal well drilling in the community of Sunderland
The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents in the vicinity of Brock Concession Road 6 of upcoming investigation, drilling, and testing activities associated with the development of additional municipal water supply wells for the Community of Sunderland.
When: August 2026 to December 2027
Where: Part of Lots 13 and 14, Brock Concession Road 5 including lands fronting on Brock Concession Road 6, between 1290 and 1320 Brock Concession Road 6, Sunderland, Township of Brock.
Why: The Region is undertaking investigations and drilling activities to support the development of additional groundwater supply wells that will help meet Sunderland's future drinking water needs and improve the long-term reliability of the municipal water system.
Residents in the vicinity of the site may notice increased truck traffic and periodic construction noise during drilling and testing activities. Based on current information, impacts to municipal and private drinking water supplies are not expected. As a precaution, the Region will undertake monitoring activities to assess local groundwater conditions throughout the project.
Notes: Beginning in August 2026, representatives from SLR Consulting, acting on behalf of the Region of Durham, may contact nearby residents to complete a water well survey. Property owners may also be invited to participate in a voluntary private well monitoring program. Investigative drilling and testing activities are scheduled between September and December 2026. This work will occur intermittently throughout that period.
Following completion of the investigation program, the final well design will be developed. Drilling and testing of permanent municipal supply wells is currently anticipated to occur during the second half of 2027.
The Region appreciates residents' patience and understanding during this work. All activities will be conducted in accordance with Township of Brock Noise By-law No. 3118-2022.
