Protect waste collection workers from broken glass and sharp objects
When setting out waste for curbside collection, residents are reminded to keep our collection workers safe.
A few simple steps can make a big difference to stop injuries related to the disposal of broken glass, broken porcelain and medical sharps. Broken glass and porcelain punctures plastic bags, causing injuries for collection workers and others who handle the waste.
Medical sharps, such as hypodermic needles, syringes, EpiPens and lancets, are dangerous as they cut the skin and come into contact with bodily fluids. To help keep everyone safe, medical sharps are not to be placed in the garbage, blue box or green bin.
