The Regional Municipality of Durham has awarded a contract for the reconstruction of Harmony Road from Rossland Road to Taunton Road, in the City of Oshawa. Work includes asphalt removal, grading, drainage, granular base, curb and gutter, hot mix paving, storm sewer replacement, sanitary sewer replacement, watermain replacement, traffic control signals, street lights, bridge repairs, sidewalk and multi-use path,
The Region’s contractor, KAPP Contracting Inc., will start work the week of August 2. Work is expected to be complete by August 2021. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
Work will occur in stages; one side of Harmony Road will be reconstructed at a time in order to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction during peak traffic hours and whenever possible. Weekdays between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. traffic may be reduced to a single lane of traffic controlled by a flag person when required due to the nature of the work.
Access to adjacent properties will be maintained at all times, except for short periods of time when the nature of construction does not allow access. Any access closures will be coordinated with the property owner or businesses such that access, and deliveries can be continuously accommodated. The contractor will provide advanced notice to the property owner or businesses before any closures occur. Pedestrian access will be maintained on one side of the road at all times using existing sidewalk or temporary asphalt sidewalk. Bus stop locations may be relocated to accommodate construction.
Road closures will occur at local connecting streets for a period of up to 5 days to safely complete work in the intersections.
