Region of Durham commits $10.25 million toward affordable rental housing

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is committing $10.25 million in funding through the At Home Incentive Program to support the development of three affordable rental housing projects.

As the threat of the climate crisis increases, each Earth Day provides an opportunity to reflect on our progress and reconfirm our commitment to taking action at the local and regional level to address this global challenge.

Durham Region’s Waste Management Facilities increasing user fees effective May 1

Whitby, Ontario – Effective May 1, 2024, the minimum user fee for general residential and commercial garbage waste will increase from $5 per load to $7 per load for loads up to 40 kilograms (88 pounds). For every eight kilograms greater than 40 kilograms, the fee will increase from $1 to $1.40. The flat rate for loads weighing 1,000 kilograms (metric tonne) or more will increase from $125 to $175 per 1,000 kilograms.
