Cancellation of Emergency Alert for Pickering Nuclear Generating Station

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham has been advised by the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre that the Emergency Alert issued this morning regarding the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station was sent in error. There is no danger to the public or the environment.
Please do not call 9-1-1 for updates.

Regional Council approves 2020 water and sewer use rates

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Regional Council has approved the 2020 water and sanitary sewer user rates, with a combined increase of 2.3 per cent, or $5.56 per quarterly billing ($22.24 per year) for the average Durham Region household. This represents an increase of less than seven cents a day for the average residential customer.

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region’s Open Data Program was recently ranked 17th in Canada by the Open Cities Index (OCI). By jumping 25 spots from the previous survey, Durham Region also earned the title of 2019’s Most Improved.
