Regional Council approves 2017 Business Plans and Budgets

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Regional Council today approved the 2017 Regional Business Plans and Budgets for property-tax-supported purposes, during its meeting at Regional Headquarters. The 2017 Business Plans and Budgets, totaling approximately $1.14 billion, will continue to provide for essential services and investment in needed capital infrastructure to the Region’s approximately 658,000 residents.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to advise the public that after assessing the condition of boiler #2—which is currently undergoing repairs to a damaged water tube—as a precautionary step, Covanta the operator of the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC) has decided to take boiler #1 offline as well to assess its condition. Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to advise the public that scheduled annual maintenance, at the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC) has been moved up to accommodate the ongoing unplanned outage of boiler #2.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to advise the public that boiler #2 at the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC) will be off-line for unscheduled maintenance to repair a damaged water tube within the boiler. The facility operator, Covanta, has shut-down the affected boiler until a repair can be completed. Boiler #1 continues to operate and the facility continues to accept waste.

Durham Regional Council has approved a permanent Open Data program for The Regional Municipality of Durham. This will allow certain data to be made freely available to the public, in a machine-readable format, without any restrictions from copyright, patents or other mechanisms of control. The launch of this program is the result of a 10-month Open Data pilot initiative, which was met with very positive results by those who had accessed the data.
