Local COVID-19 vaccine mass immunization clinics begin winding down

Whitby, Ontario – Effective Aug. 14, Durham Region Health Department will begin winding down local COVID-19 vaccine mass immunization clinics, giving community members a few more weeks to get their first or second dose at one of these clinics.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Oshawa Power and Elexicon Energy have partnered on a region-wide zero emission vehicle (ZEV) education and awareness initiative called E-Mission, with partial funding from Natural Resources Canada.

Health Department reports first West Nile virus positive mosquitoes for 2021

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region Health Department has received notification of adult mosquitoes that have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). The positive batch of mosquitoes was collected from one of the Health Department’s mosquito trap sites located in Ajax. Positive confirmation was received on July 22. These are the first mosquitoes in Durham Region to test positive for WNV this season.

Durham Region to collaborate with community partners on Oshawa Micro-Housing Project

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham will partner with Lakeridge Health, Ontario Tech University and Durham College on the Oshawa Micro-Housing Pilot Project.
The Oshawa Micro-Housing Pilot Project is a 10-unit micro-home community in central Oshawa that will offer temporary transitional housing with various supports, including financial assistance, employment services, mental health and addictions supports, life skills teaching and more. Occupancy is projected for fall 2021.
