Whitby, Ontario – The Durham Greener Homes Program has received national recognition through a recent video released by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).The video highlights the program and its innovative, third-party financing model that makes energy efficient home upgrades more accessible and affordable for homeowners. Check out the video at GreenMunicipalFund.ca.

The Durham Greener Homes Program is a first-of-its-kind home energy upgrade program in Canada and supports Durham homeowners through their home retrofit journey. It provides access to free expert home energy coaching, financing options, incentives and cashback rebates.

The program is delivered in partnership with the Windfall Ecology Centre and is a key part of the Region’s implementation of climate action initiatives in response to Durham Regional Council’s climate emergency declaration. Funding is provided through a $3.4 million investment from the Community Efficiency Financing, an initiative delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Green Municipal Fund, supported by the Government of Canada.

For more information on home energy upgrades, access to a home energy coach, an interactive web-portal and financing incentives, visit DurhamGreenerHomes.ca.

Quotes

“Since it’s launch, The Durham Greener Homes Program is helping to create more resilient homes and a sustainable community by engaging Durham homeowners in climate action. We are excited to see the Durham Greener Homes Program featured on the national stage by FCM and hope that it inspires other municipalities to transform into climate-efficient communities.”

– Ian McVey, Manager of Sustainability, Region of Durham

"Windfall Ecology Centre is honoured to be working with Durham Region and FCM to deliver the Durham Greener Homes program, which has helped hundreds of Durham residents significantly reduce their GHG emissions and energy use while improving home comfort and property values. In our everyday interactions with program participants, it is encouraging to witness the pride and commitment Durham residents express in taking personal action on the climate emergency.”

– Brent R. Kopperson, Founder and Executive Director, Windfall Ecology Centre
