Information on the Election of the Regional Chair

On April 4, 2012 Regional Council passed By-law #19-2012 to change the method of selecting the Regional Chair to election by general vote, in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.

By-law #19-2012 attained "triple majority" approval on May 29, 2012.

 Accessibility
The Region’s 2022 Municipal Election Accessibility Plan largely builds off of the Region’s 2022 – 2025 Multi-Year Accessibility Plan and the Corporate Accessibility Policy; both of which seek to uphold the principles of dignity and independence, strive to provide integrated services and ensure equal participation for persons with disabilities, including candidates and electors.

The Plan is a living document that may be updated as the Region’s accessibility policies and procedures continue to evolve or as barriers are identified.

Please contact us if you wish to provide feedback related to the manner in which services are provided to persons with disabilities during the election process.

Joint Compliance Audit Committee

The Region of Durham is participating in a Joint Compliance Audit Committee with local municipalities for the 2022 Municipal and School Board Elections.
