Improving the sightline for drivers making left turns

Whitby, Ontario – Turning left at busy intersections just got easier. Durham Region is redesigning designated intersections to incorporate Positive Offset Left Turns (POLTs) as part of the Durham Vision Zero Strategic Road Safety Action Plan. POLTs move the left-turn lanes farther to the left, so drivers trying to turn left can see oncoming traffic better and avoid blocking each other’s view.

Lane restrictions on Park Road in Oshawa

Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham is advising residents of upcoming lane restrictions on Park Road in the City of Oshawa.

When: Approximately May 12 to June 13. Unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule.

Where: Park Road (Regional Road 54), from eight metres north of Frontenac Avenue to 21 metres north of Adelaide Avenue (Regional Road 58), in the City of Oshawa.

Ride smart, stay safe: Motorcycle safety matters

Whitby, Ontario –. With the arrival of nicer weather, motorcyclists are hitting the roads in Durham. Motorcyclists are at high risk of injury in collisions. Approximately 63 per cent of motorcycle collisions result in an injury or fatality. Durham Region along with Durham Regional Police Service, supports Durham Vision Zero and works with road safety partners to create safer roads and reduce collisions, road fatalities and injuries with the goal of zero people killed or injured on Durham roads.

Crossrides allow cyclists to cross the street without dismounting

As part of Durham Vision Zero, crossrides have been installed along multi-use path routes at intersections throughout the region.

A crossride is a dedicated space at an intersection where cyclists can legally ride their bicycle through the intersection without dismounting. Crossrides are identified by unique pavement markings and may be located beside a pedestrian crosswalk or on its own. Crossrides can be combined with a crosswalk to save space, which is called a mixed crossride.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of a lane closure on Winchester Road in the Town of Whitby. 

Where: The eastbound lane of Winchester Road will be closed, from Durham Street/Chelmsford Drive to east of Watford Street/Anderson Street, in Whitby.
