Count your business in: The annual Business Count returns this spring

Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham is gathering employment statistics to inform how to support building a stronger local economy – one business at a time. From May to August, the Region’s Business Count team will be visiting businesses across the region. Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region’s Community Safety and Well-Being Secretariat is accepting applications for the Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) Fund Grant program. This grant program supports not-for-profit organizations and community groups who are leading violence prevention initiatives in communities throughout Durham.

Caution: Your speed matters in construction zones

The number of construction projects increases as the weather warms up. Road construction work is necessary to keep our roads in good condition. To protect the safety of workers, other drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, all drivers are reminded to slow down and proceed with caution through construction zones or areas where workers are present.

Drivers are also reminded that speed limits are reduced in construction zones, and fines are doubled when workers are present.

Region of Durham to establish Durham Reception Centre in Pickering

Whitby, Ontario – The federal government has provided funding for the Region of Durham to purchase a former hotel in Pickering. This space will be used to establish the Durham Reception Centre—a space providing temporary accommodation and support for asylum claimants arriving through the Durham Humanitarian Response Program (DHRP).
