Join Durham Tourism in celebrating Culture Days 2018
Whitby, Ontario – Durham Tourism invites residents and visitors to experience Culture Days–an interactive, free celebration of local arts and culture, taking place September 28 to 30.
This three-day national celebration sees hundreds of thousands of artists and cultural organizations, in hundreds of cities and towns across Canada, come together to share their cultural spirit and passion. Many free and interactive events are held during the celebration, in several communities throughout Durham Region. Durham residents and visitors are encouraged to explore their creativity, and experience creative expression through the region’s talented artists, musicians, creators, historians and more. Visit durhamtourism.ca and on.culturedays.ca for a full lineup of events.
“Durham Region is an incredibly talented, passionate and creative community,” says Kathy Weiss, Director of Economic Development and Tourism. “Join us in celebrating the vibrant, diverse arts scene across our region and discover culture in action.”
This year, the annual Culture Days weekend sees the addition of Culture Trek, a new program of travel itineraries building on the desire to explore our surrounding communities; uncovering the arts and culture stories that make each place unique. Durham Region has been selected as one of three locations in Ontario for this inaugural year!
The itineraries pinpoint key Culture Days events, along recommended travel routes, while highlighting the great places to eat and sleep. Thoughtfully selected to reflect the unique character of our local arts and culture scene, travellers will find mainstays like theatres and museums, as well as the work of local artists, collectives and community groups.
“Our local communities are thrilled to be a part of the first ever Culture Trek, during Culture Days’ annual weekend,” says Brandon Pickard, Manager of Tourism. “The itinerary for Durham Region is a charming mix of urban excitement and country charm, and visitors will find that Durham is a wonderful place to visit, explore and discover.”
More than 70 events, throughout all eight area municipalities, have registered on the Culture Days Ontario website. Although the celebration is quickly approaching, Durham Tourism encourages all interested artists, event producers and arts organizations in Durham Region to register their Culture Days event online, both at durhamtourism.ca and culturedays.ca.
