Whitby, Ontario – The Durham Region Works Department is reminding residents that free waste diversion kits are available to Durham residents who are new to the region or who have recently moved into a new home. To get your free kit, fill out the New Resident Diversion Kit Form on the Region’s website.

What:

Each kit contains:

  • Two blue boxes
  • One large green bin
  • One kitchen container
  • One waste management calendar

When: Waste diversion kits are available year-round.

Whitby, Ontario – With the upcoming time change and local fire departments’ promotion of changing batteries in smoke alarms, Durham Region’s Works Department is reminding residents to place their used or unwanted batteries out for recycling on their collection day during the week of November 4.

When: Fall battery collection occurs the week of November 4 on blue box collection days.

At Reuse Days, the Works Department partners with local charities to donate good-quality, reusable items—keeping them out of the waste stream.

What kind of items can be donated? Acceptable items include clothing, textiles, furniture, appliances, cabinets, countertops and most other reusable renovation materials.
